This week, we are launching a new product, Employee List!

Employee List is available for all users of Google Apps. Employee List is an integrated app listed on the Google Apps Marketplace that adds more depth to your Google Apps installation. It allows your users to add details about themselves, including phone numbers, skill sets, likes, hobbies and more. It allows your employees to search on all of the information within the Employee List. Looking for a person that knows Powerpoint? Search for it in the Skill field. Looking for somebody who plays golf? Search for it in the Hobbies field.

For those of you using Google Apps as an intranet, this will bring more intranet-like functionality. Usually the Employee Directory is the most visited part of any intranet.  So add a reason for people to come back often.

Visit our separate Employee List website for more information on the product with information, pictures and direct links to the apps marketplace so you can sign up now!

We recently renamed our flagship product from CompositeWeb's Collaboration Suite, to Vinna.  This is the reasoning behind that move.

The first name was quite a mouthful.  We found the long product name made it difficult to discuss and write about.  We are hoping that with a nice short product name, we will get more brand awareness.  It is much easier to remember one short name, especially if it is a little unusual, than it is to remember a bunch of long ones.

So now you are probably wondering "What does Vinna mean?".  We came upon the name by using Google translate to translate words that we felt were the core of the product.  We searched on words like group, collaborate, share, community, team and others, but finally ended up with a word based on Collaborate.  Vinna means Collaborate in Icelandic.  One of the other interesting things about Vinna is that it also means to win or to work in Swedish.

So that is the reason, the origin, and the meaning of the new name.  What didn't change however was the product.  It continues to be the same easy to use, and feature rich collaborative web service that it was before.

In a recent article, Pentagon's Social Network Becomes Hub for Haiti Relief, the authors describe how the Pentagon's latest social tool offering was used effectively to coordinate relief agencies and the military quickly after the earthquake that devastated the country.  The authors state that the pentagon's software, "uses file-sharing applications, wikis, blogs, and calendaring tools, among other things, to coordinate information and action among people, no matter where they are".  I was amazed to hear that the Pentagon has built a system similar to our Collaboration Suite!

It was great to hear they were able to use the tools to communicate better with all the needed people.  We feel that our Collaboration Suite would be even better suited for applications like this.  We also include micro blogging tools (a twitter-like tool that is only accessible within the organization) that would allow all people to follow what was happening when it was happening.  The Collaboration Suite also allows the easy creation of groups so that you can organize information within groups.  That way groups can share the information that only they need and nobody outside of that group needs to be distracted by information they don't need to see.

We think the article is a great example of one of the many uses for our application suite.  While we hope you don't have to use it for organizing a disaster, we do hope that it will help you organize your business or group.  We have designed and built it from the ground up with that purpose in mind.

Hello and welcome to the CompositeWeb blog.  The purpose of the blog is to keep you updated with CompositeWeb and its products.  We will be covering all the updates that are applied to our web-based Collaboration Suite, so you know what exciting new features to look for.  We will also post updates to our opensource form building tool, coreForms as well as our easy to use FibreCMS offering.

In case you are wondering what CompositeWeb is, we are a small 3 person company in Massachusetts.  The idea for the Collaboration Suite as well as FibreCMS came about when working with small companies and non-profits.  We saw their need to  share files, calendars and the ability to collaborate, as well as the price they had to pay to get shared servers and an IT consultant to get it set up and maintained.

The Collaboration Suite came about to fill that need in an inexpensive package, so that these small companies could have an easy to use application that would allow them to accomplish what they need to accomplish with minimal hastle.

FibreCMS also originated from what we saw was a need of small businesses and non-profits as well.  It is an easy to use CMS system that is inexpensive and modular, so they can easily maintain group calendars, news items, and pages.

We always strive to make the most efficient use of peoples time whether it is using the Collaboration Suite or FibreCMS.
